​This teaching tool was originally created to teach Malaysian children residing in NGO shelter homes to read. Over the years and based on feedback received from the children and volunteers, we have incorporated more elements into these cards including upper and lower case alphabets, word categories, colours, basic shapes and numbers.


These are more than just flash cards for words and can be utilized in a variety of manner to make learning fun.


We have now turned this into a social enterprise by teaching and empowering those from a difficult background to hand make these cards as a means of financial support.


All net proceeds from this goes back into them in terms of employment, education and housing needs.



Teaching is fun



Alphabet Recognition Games



1. Give a few cards of both upper and lower case alphabets and allow them to associate the upper case alphabets with the lower case alphabets.

2. Give the child a 4 or 5 alphabets cards in sequence and see if they can arrange it in order.



Picture Recognition Game



1. Show a picture and ask them where this can be found

2. Show a picture and see if they can find the corresponding upper or lower case alphabet card

3. Show a picture and see if they can say other pictures with the same alphabet



Number Recognition Games



1. Give a the numbers 1 to 10 and see if they can arrange it in sequence

2. Say a number and see if they can identify the card

3. Say a number and see if they can find the actual quantity in shapes



Shape Recognition Games



1. Say a shape type and see if they can find the card

2. Say a shape type and number and see if they can find the card



Learning to read



Each Flash Card has between 4 to 6 words. For beginners just pick a simple word from a card and start there. Easier words are at the top of the card.


Say the word and get the child to repeat. If it is a noun, ask the child to show the item or where it can be found. If it is a verb, ask the child to act out the word. If it is an adjective, ask the child to describe other nouns with the same features.


Try to learn just one word from each card first (A to Z). Children tend to get excited when moving on to new cards. This will keep their interest up. Once they have finished all the alphabets then go back to A and start with another 2 or 3 words and move on.


They are many other methods to learn and be creative.
